L’Instant Parisien #2
L’Instant Parisien was imagined as a concentration of Parisian life on paper. “Each issue presents a collection of moments, chronicles of Parisian lives, and stories of men and women who exhibit how Paris has transformed before our eyes.” Over 250 pages, printed on a nice matt paper with beautiful full-color photography, the magazine is a journal of Parisian life. An epitome of French romanticism, urban realism and modern gentrification.
Pallet Magazine: Only Interested in Everything
So here’s what you know: beer is very cool at the moment. Small independent breweries seem to be sprouting up like weeds around every street corner, in every abandoned warehouse across town, in the back of huge food trucks, in your best friend’s spare bedroom – all causing a chain reaction of smiles, high bills and ridiculous headaches. Every beer is better than the last, I.P.A’s are the coolest thing since the Spice Girls, and bottle art is becoming punkier than the 90s sticker revolution. And beer, in every shape and form, is, of course, for men and their constant battle in the race for masculinity. Or is it? Insert Pallet magazine, only interested in everything, here: where we might sound skeptical, biased and on the fence about beer as a trend and core subject of a magazine, we believe Pallet is one of the coolest new independents to hit the scene. And trust us, we enjoy a good I.P.A., no stress.
Lunch Lady #2: Coloured Turbulence
The first thing that strikes us, reading brand new magazine Lunch Lady, is that it seems to be made specifically by the very same people the magazine targets: mothers of all ages with kids dealing with lunch, dinner and the rest of everyday life. It’s not made by a team of marketing people selling a magazine to a specific audience, quite the contrary, the makers are their own market and they know exactly who they’re talking to.
Drift #03: Havana
There are a lot of magazines that cover one city or region per issue. Pet People, for example, portrays people and their pets from one particular city. Boat Magazine dives into a city with their whole editorial team, We Are Dublin stays at home, Lodestars Anthology picks an entire country while Flaneur investigates one street of one specific city. Drift goes one step further, the editors pick one city and investigate its coffee culture.
